1) What is your understanding of online identity? Discuss online identity in different context.

Online identity is your representation online. This is comprised by any social media outlets you are a part of including any photo sharing apps/websites. Posts on these mediums shed light onto your personal life in one way, shape, or form. For example, on your Facebook, postings about your views on politics allows others to create an image of you in their mind. Not only do posts do this, but photos as well. Apps like Instagram allow people to pretty much see things through your eyes. This online community can only see what you post, so it's up to you what you want your online identity to be.

2) According to the readings, what do you think are the most important factors to a successful online brand?

Your online relevance is very important when starting on the job hunt. According to the stats in the article, many employers use Google to do a current day reference check. Thus, what shows up on the first three pages on Google when your name is entered is very important. You want to be digitally visible in the results and only in a positive way. Not only do you need to keep your search result reputation clean, but it needs to continue to stay relevant and stand out from your peers.

  1. Yeah building off your online identity section, I agree you do choose who your identity is. You have to be really careful though with the pictures you are tagged in though. Sometimes a takes a while to realized you were tagged in some embarrassing photos and by the time you find out, a potential employer could have seen that picture and that could ruin your chances of work. I recently took down pictures of me tagged at parties. They are not the most flattering and definitely not what i want my employers to see.

  2. Yeah I agree your should definitely be careful about what you put up on the internet. That's like internet basics. And I agree with Kevin too. Your not gonna want your future boss to see that you can successfully pull off a keg stand. Also kudos on your blog background, it's super trippy.

  3. I agree with you that it is important to stay relevant and positive, I also wrote about how your potential employers will undoubtedly google you and how important it is to have that positive presence online, but I also think its important to have not just a positive presence but also to make sure you have a well-rounded presence like the article said.
